Kleinschmidt Cares

Our Commitment to the Communities Where We Work, Live and Play

At Kleinschmidt, our values guide how we treat each other, serve our clients, perform our work, and serve our communities. We strive to meet our core values of Meaningful Work, Integrity, and overall Loyalty in everything we do. At the core of our culture is a service to others ethos, reflected in our longstanding philanthropic outreach to many socially and economically disadvantaged communities. We believe so strongly in making meaningful investments in these communities and other worthy endeavors that we formally endowed and established the Kleinschmidt Fund in 2010.

Selecting the places to invest our funds is entrusted to a Philanthropy Committee, an employee-led organization that solicits employee applications for deserving organizations, collects employee-requested paycheck withdrawals, and makes donations on behalf of Kleinschmidt each year.

Kleinschmidt encourages each full-time employee to give back to their community through an annual paid day off to allow them the opportunity and time to actively serve worthy causes. Recent donations and service days in Pennsylvania, Maine and Oregon included time spent at shelters, food banks and performing STEM related classroom instruction at places such as Benson Polytechnic High School, and Portland Oregon’s highly touted four-year career technical education institution.

Diversity and Inclusion

Early steps to diversify our own workforce began over ten years ago, with a more deliberate recruitment of women, an underrepresented cohort in the science and engineering work we perform. Through focused development and investments in leadership training, we have provided meaningful promotions and opportunities for women in the last five years; as a result, 7 out of 12 of the key management positions in the company are currently held by women. We have worked diligently to ensure gender and pay equity in our workforce, and actively endorse and promote women in work initiatives not only within Kleinschmidt, but also within the industries where we serve.

We know in our core, that our purpose of performing meaningful work that sustains the environment for future generations is noble, but we also recognize we are not where we either want to be or need to be to achieve our true potential as an organization. This journey of continuous improvement is part of Kleinschmidt’s DNA.

Working with the National Parks and Recreation Association, the Society of Women Engineers, Women in Hydropower Mentorship Program, and many other organizations deepens our understanding, commitment and investment in all aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion at Kleinschmidt will make us an even better version of who we are today.
